Karachi: In a groundbreaking move, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) are set to run simultaneously in 2025. This unprecedented scheduling conflict arises due to the Champions Trophy, which is being hosted by Pakistan in February and March.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision following a meeting with PSL franchise owners. The 2025 PSL is scheduled to take place from April 7 to May 20, directly overlapping with the IPL season. This marks the first time the two leagues will compete for viewership and player availability.
The PCB's decision to shift the PSL window was necessitated by the Champions Trophy. The board is also exploring the possibility of hosting playoff matches at a neutral venue, expanding beyond the traditional cities of Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.
The simultaneous scheduling of the IPL and PSL presents challenges for both leagues. It could impact the availability of foreign players who participate in both leagues and raise questions about how fans will divide their attention. The PCB and BCCI will need to navigate this complex situation to ensure a successful season for both leagues.
